Cam Newton!! What’s Next? Back Up, Starter, Free Agent?

Cam Newton!! What’s Next? Back Up, Starter, Free Agent?

What’s Next for Cam Newton, will he be a starter, back up or remain a free agent.  Which team could or should take a chance on Newton Patriots? Jaguars? Chargers? Seahawks? Dolphins? Newton was the 1st round pick for the Panthers back in 2011, 1x MVP, 3x Pro  Bowl and more accolades in his career.  Newton’s stats in 125 games 68-55-1 record, 59.6 Completion Rate, 29,041 total yards, 182 Touchdowns and 108 Interceptions.  So, what is next for Newton?

Patriots still showing no interest in signing Cam Newton after ...

Starter

  • Patriots

Currently the Patriots QB depth chart contain Jarrett Stidham (sophomore, 3 games in 2019, 0 TD & 1 Int) and Brian Hoyer, a veteran QB with both starter and back up experience.  Newton, healthy, beats out both Stidham and Hoyer based on stats and experience.  Playstyle wise it would be a little different for Newton, who could be ask to depend more on his passing and not so much on his running.  The Patriots will still benefit from a proven playmaker.

The Patriots’ have the best odds for a landing place for Newton, due to their lack of depth and experience, but it really depends on their plan for the 2020 season.  The Patriots can aim to come to term with Newton for a short term without any future commitments.  Now if the Patriots take more a route or commitments towards a higher draft pick (Trevor Lawrence), the Newton may have a different mindset and may value winning a bit more.

  • Dolphins

If the Dolphins want to give Tua Tagovailoa a year off in more a learning role while remaining (somewhat) competitive then Newton gives them the best shot.  While the Dolphins do have Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen on the roster, signing Newton would just add another mentor for Tua.  The signing of Newton, would have the biggest negative effect on Rosen, who is still young and trying to prove himself.

The key for the Dolphins is to bring in Newton as the best possible for mentor for Tua.  On a starting role, Newton will have a quality RB in Jordan Howard and receivers that can make plays in DeVante Parker and Albert Winston.  In the AFC East, the Dolphins have to fight off the Patriots, Bills and Jets so even a playoff spot could be a possibility.

  • Notable Mentions: Chargers

The same argument what was made for the Dolphins signing Newton can be made for the Chargers.

Cam Newton's Panthers divorce is getting ugly

Back up

  • Jaguars

The situation or appeal here is that the Leonard Fournette is recruiting Newton to the Jaguars.  The problem is that Fournette himself have been part of trading rumors.  The Jaguars’ seem committed to Gardner Minshew II but without the guaranteed that he can be the same trending and quality player from last year.  Newton could be their back up plan (pun intended).

  • Cowboys

While this may seem unlike or absolutely nonsense, Jerry Jones can put some pressure on Dak Prescott by signing Newton.  After signing him subtle Marcus Mariotta and Ryan Tannerhill references could be made to throw fuel into the drama.

  • Notable mentions: Cardinals, Bengals

Cam Newton rumors: New England Patriots 'haven't shown any ...

Free Agent

  • Bears

Newton to the Bears could be a possibility based on the unsatisfaction the Bears have with Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles recent health history.  Also factoring the amount of money they have to leftover thanks to Khalil Mack’s contract.

Final Thoughts

If Newton understand that he is not the same player from a couple years ago, making him willing to adapt his game and change his mentality he will be a contributor to any team that he goes.  In my opinion the Dolphins and Bears are where he could have the most success as he looks to rebound from last season.

NSS NFC Wild Card: Vikings @ Saints

NSS NFC Wild Card: Vikings @ Saints

This may be the easiest Wild Card pregame that I have ever done.  No Minnesota miracle should be happening, this game should be about pure revenge for the Saints.  PURE REVENGE FOR THE SAINTS.  The Saints pregame hype video should be the “Miracle” play to make the Saints come out with a fresh dose of anger.

Drew Brees will be looking for Michael Thomas to keep on breaking records.  Kirk Cousins will keep proving that he wasn’t worth the contract.  The genius of Sean Payton will be fully on display for this game.  Taysom Hill will represent Idaho in the wild card game.  The Saints are playing at home, in theory, even starting Bridgewater the Saints should still be the favorite.

Pardon my “shade” against the Vikings but, personally, they don’t seem to have a winning shot.  They are not a better team than last year even with Dalvin Cook at 100% and truly carrying the offense.  Cook leads in rushing and is the 2nd leader in receiving yards for the Vikings behind Stefon Diggs.  At the end of the day the Vikings don’t trust Kirk Cousins.

Cousins Stats 2019 in the last 5 years or since he became a full time starter:

  • 3,603 Yards are the lowest in his last 5 years.
  • 26 Touchdowns, 2nd lowest in his last 5 years.
  • 6 interceptions, sounds great, Cousins has only attempted 444 passes, which is the lowest in his last 5 years.

Cousins is not the Vikings primary weapon nor option; therefore the Saints only have to focus on containing Cook.

On the other side of the ball, Brees in 11 games has 2,979 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and only thrown 4 interceptions.  The Saints are one of the best home teams in the league and fueled by revenge from last year, this game should be a BREEze.

Pick: Saints.

Cowboys @ Bears! Thursday Night Football Matters!! Kind off!! NSS Preview!!

Cowboys @ Bears! Thursday Night Football Matters!! Kind off!! NSS Preview!!

THE POSSIBIILITY FOR THE COWBOYS TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS WITH A LOSING RECORD IS REAL!! The Cowboys, in theory, only have to make sure to beat the Eagles and the Redskins or just need for those team to lost.  And on the other side the Bears, on a 2 game winning streak who need a miracle to make the playoffs but really it could be the last chance Mitchell Trubsiky to prove something??

So… Why again does the Cowboys @ Bears on TNF matters again?

Check it, it could maybe, maybe be a fun game.

Cowboys:

  • Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper are trying to get paid and neither have a good enough argument to validate their paycheck.  It doesn’t help that Jerry Jones seems to be cheap AF when it comes to paying players.
  • Jason Garrett days with the Cowboys may be numbered.  Yes “may be” because there could “maybe” win a Super Bowl.  Till then let’s start building theories about who will be the next coach: Ron Rivera?? Jim Harbaugh?? Tony Romo?? Jerry Jones himself??
  • Zeke has been meh, has play like meh but the 6 year, $90 million contract that he signed and nobody is talking about, looks it will be the chip that will be used against the Cowboys to point out the failure of a season and how they don’t deserve to be “America’s Team”
  • Speaking of America’s Team (the Cowboys lol) are they going to make the playoffs with a losing record?

Bears

  • The Bears will have to win every game to make the playoffs, that includes a win vs the Packers, the Chiefs and the Vikings.  So there is a chance
  • Bears 2018 / “Trubisky 2018” won the last 4 games of the season; Rams, Packers, 49ers, Vikings
  • So, like, there is a chance for the wild card!! Maybe
  • Trubisky 2018 vs 2019: 2020?
    • 2018: 24 TD, 12 Int, 3,223 Passing Yards, 3 Rushed TD
    • 2019: 13 TD, 7 Int, 2,196 Passing Yards, 1 Rushed TD
    • 4 year, $134 Million deal ($110 Million guaranteed).  Salary $7.9 Million this year, $9.2 Million in 2020
  • What’s Khalil Mack Season Grade (So Far) vs 2018:
    • 2019: 39 Tackles, 6.5 Sacks, 4 Pass Deflections, 5 Forced Fumbles
    • 2018: 47 Tackles, 12.5 Sacks, 4 Pass Deflections, 6 Force Fumbles, 1 Touchdown
  • Is Matt Naggy on the hot seat? How much of it has to do with Trubisky?

Conclusion

The Cowboys and Bears had higher expectations coming into the season and is getting to the finals weeks of the season to make their final statements.
