Rockets Trade Reaction & Nonsense

Rockets Trade Reaction & Nonsense

The Houston Rockets have officially traded away Clint Capela and if you are also confused about the trade you are not alone.  Does it make sense that PJ Tucker or Danuel House Jr is the starting center, not it doesn’t.  The Rockets’ wasted no time and started making deals in the trade deadline, so here we are.

The trade went down like this, 12 players & 4 teams:

Houston:

  • Robert Covington
  • Jordan Bell

Hawks:

  • Clint Capela
  • Nene (Be honest, did you know he was still in the league?)

Timberwolves:

  • Malik Beasley
  • Juancho Hernangomez
  • Jarred Vanderbilt
  • Evan Turner
  • Hawks 1st round pick (via Nets)

Nuggets:

  • Shabazz Napier
  • Keita Bates-Diop
  • Gerald Green (injured, will be waived)
  • Noah Vonleh
  • Rockets 1st round draft pick

Rockets’ Reaction – the Rockets got better in the sense of a perimeter wing that can shoot 3s and can switch 1-5.  Gave up a solid rebounder and rim protector.  The Rockets’ getting better with a small line up does not make up for the defense that they just gave away.  With how quick the Rockets gave away Capela, it must mean that they are not done making moves.  The Rockets traded Capela away, with a backup plan already in mind.

Hawks’ Reaction – the Hawks definitely by picking up an experience defender/ rim protector to plug in and make up for all the defensive liabilities that come with Trae Young on the floor.  In my opinion, this move show a commitment to Young offensive schemes.  Hawks are winner in the trade.

Wolves’ Reaction: the real and only question here what is going to happen with Karl Anthony Towns.  Till then, the Wolves are in limbo.

Nuggets Reaction: the Nuggets are winner here because they didn’t really give up anything and they got a draft pick.  Giving up Malik Beasley is not so bad when you think about the all the progress that Michael Porter Jr. has been making.

What do you guys think about the trade?

Jazz @ Nuggets!! Game 1 of 4!!

Jazz @ Nuggets!! Round 1!!

The Jazz (32-15) will facing the Nuggets (32-15) for game one of a 4 game series.  The teams are tied in the 3rd and 4th seed, with Nugget having the advantage and both are behind one game on the Clippers.  The Jazz are coming off consecutive losses to Western conference team while the Nuggets are coming off a loss to the Grizzlies.  This game should be full of nonsense.

Donovan Mitchell is coming off consecutive 30+ games and the Jazz are counting on another here.  Unfortunately, Mitchell performances have both been losses, the Jazz need to bounce back this game.  A positive for the Jazz has been the returned of Mike Conley and maybe adjusting back to him have put the Jazz a step behind but they are working it out.  Conley needs to stay healthy and help out Mitchell in all the areas possible.

The Nuggets will be without Jamal Murray, Paul Millsap and Mason Plumlee.  Regardless of the players out the Nuggets are deep in their lineup and should not be taking lightly.  Nikola Jokic is still the heart and soul of the team and there is no telling when he’ll break out for a perfect night.  Also, Michael Porter Jr should be on the watch because he is the guy to be set to take over for the Nuggets.  In the month of January, Porter is averaging 12.2 pts per game in 20.8 mins, his role is increasing and he stepping up to the plate.

Gobert Vs Jokic – should be the matchup of the night.  The Jazz will need to rotate good enough to keep Gobert closer to the rim and away from having to step out to Jokic too many times.

Pick: Jazz. Attack with Mitchell and out the pressures on the Nuggets guard.

NSS NBA Daily Nuggets @ Mavericks Preview!! Jokic Vs Lucas!!

NSS NBA Daily Nuggets @ Mavericks Preview!!

Jokic Vs Lucas!!

Game 2 of a 4-game series between the Nuggets and Mavs.  Mavs took game 1, thanks to double digit scoring by 9 out of the 10 players that played, led by Maxi Kleber with 14 points.  The Nuggets are 2 games ahead of the Mavs in the standing and coming off a win against the Atlanta Hawks.  Luka Doncic had a big night and another triple double with 38 pts, 10 ast and 11 reb for his 11th of the season.

Luka, as a sophomore, is leading the NBA in triple doubles with 11.  Is not just stats that he is getting, he is putting the Mavs on the map and there is no limit to what he can do.  Luka is only a sophomore, only a sophomore is playing in his prime at 20 years old.  It makes sense, we cant forget that Luka has been professional basketball since 2015 and winning ever since.

Luka NBA Stats :

  • 29.7 Pts – 3rd
  • 9.7 Reb – 17th
  • 8.9 Ast – 3rd

Jokic and the Nuggets are 2nd the west with 25-11, 7-3 in their last 10 and 10-7 in away games.  The Nuggets are a good team overall and become a great team when Jokic is feeling himself.  The key for the Nuggets is balance with 5 players averaging in double digits in scoring and everybody able to contribute on a nightly basis.  Also, the Nuggets have potential star of their own, in the making, in Michael Porter Jr.

Porter is being limited and giving the same Markelle Fultz treatment, in terms of being given all the time needed that he needs to recover.  Still, even in small samples, Porter is showing flashes of what he can do and how easy he can make it look.

Watching Porter play is a bit concerning because at some point in time the Nuggets will have to choose a player to build around, will it be Jokic, Jamal Murray or is the plan for Porter to be the number 1 in the future.  Since, in theory the Murray + Jokic is not working because of their lack of playoff/ quality wins.

Pick: Mavs.  When Luka is healthy, Mavs are unstoppable.

Nuggets get the win, give Lakers 3rd Straight Loss

Nuggets get the win, give Lakers 3rd Straight Loss

The Lakers’ poor game performance peaked late in the 3rd quarter where they were on a Fastbreak that ended on turnovers both times.  By the way, the turnovers weren’t due to amazing defense by the Nuggets, it was mostly due to poor performance by the Lakers.  Seriously, watching the game, it was Anthony Davis vs 8 players.  Yes, 8 players, 4 players with Lakers’ jerseys and 4 with Nuggets jerseys, not name Nikola Jokic.

If you only looked at the scoreboard, its lying, this was not fun basketball.

Really want it to give the Nuggets as much credit as possible for this win and give them a headline like “Nuggets Stay HOT and beat down the Lakers”.  But that would have been a bit of stretch.  The Nuggets didn’t play quality basketball and mostly looked sluggish at times.  They got the win, but they also had a lot of help from the Lakers.

The Lakers ended the game with 19 turnovers to 18 assists giving up 128 points.  They got closed the game on the Nuggets and then led them go on a run and didn’t even try to fake a comeback.  Without LeBron James, the Lakers seem to have forgotten how to play basketball they made nothing easy for themselves.  Davis finish with 32 points and 11 rebounds but looked bother physically due to some type of injury.

Kyle Kuzma played 22 mins and got 16 points of the bench.  Which leads me to something that I don’t understand, with LeBron being out would it make more sense to start Kuzma in his place? Instead the Lakers started 3 guards in Bradley, Rondo and Green.

The Nuggets were led Paul Millsap with 21 points and kept well balanced scoring wise.  Jamal Murray suffer the biggest struggled 3-11 on field goals, 0-6 from 3pt ending with only 6 points.  Jokic seem to be on his game as the Nuggets rolled.

Concerns:

Anthony Davis (and/or LeBron James) injuries could put this Lakers team in a really tough spot.  The Lakers are barely threading water when one is gone, with two gone sinking looks inevitable.  While still on a 3-game losing streak, to 3 teams with 500 or better record, the Lakers still hold the number 1 record in the west.  That record 24-6 will only keep them up for so long till they figure some things out.

Lakers play the Clippers next December 25th.

Nuggets will visit the Suns

Should the Lakers be shopping players?? If so, who?

NSS Lakers host Nuggets – Bounce back stops winning streak

NSS Lakers host Nuggets – Bounce back stops winning streak

The Lakers suffer their first back to back losses and now must face a hot Nuggets team on a 5-game winning streak.  Also add that LeBron James’ game status is doubtful, the odds may be against the Lakers.  The Nuggets are holding down the 3rd seed in the West, 4 games behind the Lakers with an opportunity to make up some ground.

Game 2 of 4 between the Lakers and Nuggets, the Lakers lead the series 1-0 but may not have the advantage over this game.

Most teams have a clear leader (or two) but the Nuggets seem to all share the weight.  The Nuggets are an extremely interesting team due to that none of their players average 20 points per game.  Jamal Murray leads the team in scoring with 17.9 and the list goes down as follow:

  • Jamal Murray – 17.9 Ppg
  • Nikola Jokic – 17.3 Ppg
  • Will Barton – 14.6 Ppg
  • Paul Millsap (day-to-day) – 12.6 Ppg
  • Gary Harris – 11 Ppg

The Nuggets are a complicated team, but who does the ball goes for the game winner? Murray? Who is the go-to guy when a shot is needed? Jokic keeps the team well balanced with his playmaking and shot making ability? Is already clear that the Nuggets will go as far as Jokic can take them.  While a huge strength also a glaring weakness because the Nuggets are fully dependent on Jokic’s performance.  Unfortunately, for the Nuggets Jokic seems to shift in to cruise control, which is not good at all.

So, the Nuggets can attack from all angles/ positions on the floor. The Nuggets strive on balance but how much are they affected when a player is having an off night, especially when is Jokic.

Unlike the Nuggets, the Lakers have 2 main go-to guys LBJ and AD.  The supporting cast main job is to contribute wherever they can, which they didn’t at all last game.  Not to bring up bad times but the Lakers’ bench scored 4 points last game, so the bar is not very high to follow up for this game.

Lakers’ home record is 10-2 while the Nuggets are 6-5 playing away games.  The Nuggets 5 game winning streak were all home games, the Nuggets have been a very different team on the road.

The Lakers’ will benefit from LBJ playing.

The Nuggets biggest concern is Jokic not taking a game off or more than likely a road game off.

Pick: Lakers
