Lakers 3-0 Week NSS Report!! 4 Straight Wins, Playoff Clinched!!

Lakers 3-0 Week NSS Report!! 4 Straight Wins, Playoff Clinched!!

Lakers beat 76ers, Bucks and Clippers in the same week, all for the 1st time this season.  Lakers’ this week also were the 1st team to clinch in the West.  What a week full of nonsense for the Lakers’ who put a silence to all the haters and doubters and fully stepped up to the challenge.  The Laker’s are now 49-13 with 20 games left to their season, let’s review some Laker’s Nonsense.

Lakers Win 120-107 Vs 76ers, Anthony Davis 37 Pts, 13 Reb

The Lakers’ spoiled a big night by Glenn Robinson III, who put up 25 pts from the bench.  Even short handed they 76ers put up a fight but couldn’t get over a Laker’s team that was on a mission to split the season series.  Unfortunately for the 76ers was a downhill trip while in LA losing to both Clippers and Lakers.  76ers are fighting a hard battle trying to get back into the top 4 in the East, but missing Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons is hard to overcome.

Lakers Win 113-103 Vs Bucks, Top of the East not enough for LeBron’s 37 Pts, 8 Reb, 8 Ast

If it seems like every night LeBron is flirting with a triple double is because he is.  For a game that had very high expectations from both sides it did not disappoint.  The difference in this game was the big 3rd quarter by the Lakers.  Davis had a consecutive game with 30 pts, got himself 9 Reb and 2 blocks.  The Lakers split the season series vs the Bucks, who are the favorite to win the East.

Maybe to soon or maybe just nonsense but some concern (or whispers) could be forming on the side of the Bucks who had a tough loss vs the Miami Heat.  The Bucks will also be without Giannis Antetokounmpo for the next 2 games at the Suns (Sunday) and Nuggets (Monday March 9t ) due to minor joint capsule sprain his left knee.

Lakers Win vs Clippers 112-103, Davis 3rd game consecutive game with at least 30 Pts

Lakers’ win 4th straight game by beating the Clippers who were leading the series 2-0 and were undefeated when all their starters play.  This was the most watched game out of all 3 games due to that the Clippers are the Lakers’ biggest threat in the West.  The Clippers stars were hot with Leonard 27 Pts, Paul George 31 Pts and Montrezl Harrell, off the bench, with 20 Pts, but it was the Lakers defense that came up big when they needed the most.

Lakers Winning Factors

  • Consistency of Stars: Lebron James & Anthony Davis
  • Bench Production: Kyle Kuzma, Dwight Howard, Alex Caruso and The Lakers’ bench mob are consistently contributing to the game

  • LeBron’s Minutes.  LeBron led in minutes played vs Bucks with 37 Mins and Clippers with 35 mins, adding 34 Mins against the Sixers.  The Concern is LeBron already in playoff mode and just getting comfortable with playing that many minutes or could he hit a wall at some point in the playoffs and may burn himself out at the most inconvenient of times.

Week Grade – A+

Let’s talk some Lakers’ Nonsense

Which Win was the biggest for the Lakers??

Lakers @ Celtics!! Welcome Back Anthony Davis

Lakers @ Celtics!! Welcome Back Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis will be available to play against the Celtics after missing the last 5 games.  The Lakers are 4-1 in the last 5, the surprising loss coming to Markelle Fultz and the Orlando Magic.  The Celtics are on a 3-game losing skid, 2 of those losses at home.  The Lakers are still leading the West in wins now been chase by the Clippers.  The Celtics are in mix of 5 teams that are within 2 games apart in the standings

The Celtics are getting Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker back, so the Celtics should be ready to give it their all.  The Celtics will try to bounce back but everything seems to be against them, the 3-game losing streak and on top of the Walker’s record vs LeBron.  The Celtics are also dealing with trade rumors that involves Gordon Hayward and their need/ want for a rim protector.

Getting back Davis will be the highlight for the Lakers who before going out was the leading scorer for the team averaging 27.1 Ppg.  The Lakers’ are in need of more wins against team with over 500 record.  The Celtics are slumped right now, and the Lakers’ could use them and kick them while they are down. Ps Walker is 0-28 vs LeBron.

Will LeBron Get his 10th Triple Double vs the Celtics?

NSS lakers Report – 30 Wins, Kuzma Rumors, AD & LeBron Nonsense

Lakers’ NSS Report – 30 Wins, Kuzma Rumors, AD & LeBron Nonsense

The Lakers’ 30-7 record has them at the top of the West, comfortably 4 games ahead of the Nuggets and after beating the Knicks.  Lakers’ home record is 15-4, while the Knicks away record is 10-27, so win 30 was almost guaranteed..  Lakers are on another 5 game winning streak, while the Kyle Kuzma trade rumors are gaining traction.  Let’s talk some Laker’s Nonsense.

The Lakers’ are following their 4 game losing streak with a 6 game winning streak.  The best of the wins was against Luka and the Mavericks.  Other than the Lakers continue to beat up on all the weaker that are under 500.  Beating those teams under 500 is exactly what the Lakers need to keep doing, because it works.  We have seen teams led by LeBron’ worry more about making the playoffs and taking a comfortable seeding that beating good teams in the regular season.

Remember when LeBron was back with Cavaliers and they got swept by the Raptors in the regular season.  And then come the playoffs and the Cavs may quick work of them, yea exactly, watch out Clippers.  The Lakers are playing the Knicks tonight for win 30.  If the Lakers continue this formula and are successful they will be able to manage their players (LeBron & AD) minutes a lot better without having to load manage (sit out games like the Kawhi and PG).

The Lakers are already a dominant team and having home court advantage makes them even more dangerous.  While the real worry is the Clippers, that team is starting out to have many issues of their own and learning that Kawhi made not be able to save them every time.

Lakers 4 game losing streak included the Pacers, Bucks, Nuggets and the Clippers.  Maybe it didn’t even matter because they kept the top spot in West.  The great thing about winning the games that you should (in other words beating up on the little teams) is that it gives you room error.  Call it “room for error” or “margin for error” or “how many losses can they take before hitting the panic button error”.

Regardless, the Lakers loss to 4 teams with winning records and should all be making the playoffs in their conference.  No time to hit the panic button but just makes you wonder if the Lakers’ will be about to flip the switch, when they need to.

Kyle Kuzma Rumors & Packages

Honestly, it’s weird seeing all this trade rumors out on Kuzma because “is Kuzma” and also because the Lakers are winning.  Kuzma seemed to be destined to be 3rd of the big 3 for the Lakers alongside Anthony Davis and LeBron James.  But, hey here we are and can’t say that it should be fully surprising.  The truth is that any team ran by LeBron will always seem to be into some type of trade or always making moves to improve.

At the end of the day, Kuzma provides lots of upside offensively but still kind of the wild card in the Lakers team.  Hence why Kuzma is in the news, even after performing and his demeanor to bounce back from injuries. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope hasn’t been a bright spot for the Lakers, a better argument towards him.  Kuzma fit with the Lakers is also in question but to me it has to be deeper than that while consistency is an issue, once again KCP is out there. So.

But seriously why Kuzma? Is it the hair? Maybe is the fact he injury prone? Maybe the whole scene with the trainer and the conversation LeBron’s work ethic.  Maybe Kuzma is the one behind all this and feels like he won’t be able to shine in the shadow of LeBron and AD, which would make sense.  Kuzma could be looking at how good former Lakers are doing, especially Brandon Ingram blossoming with the Pelicans.  Kuzma could feel that he could be that type of player and just winning games may not be enough.

Kuzma has been set as a bench player, knowing that he could be a starter in another team.  Lastly, Kuzma is the only other scorer consistently putting up 11.8 ppg, so why would the Lakers want to give up a scorer.  The price tag on Kuzma is pretty high and getting depth and playmaking could be a good return for the Lakers.

The best package for Kuzma includes Bogdan Bogdanovic, who gives the Lakers a consistent shooter and play maker.  Also, Bogdan defends.  The Lakers are in win now mode, making every player not name LeBron or AD expendable.

Replacing Kuzma shouldn’t be too hard, especially if the trade brings in Bogdan who takes on the scoring role and gives them an upgrade at SG position.  The real X-factor for the Lakers will be the potential opportunity for Kostas Antetokounmpo who has been tearing up the G-League with dunk highlights and more.  Kostas is also a fan favorite, being Giannis brother but also a young highlight machine who is already on a two way contract.  The movement for Kuzma may just be a matter of time.

Nonsense Conclusion

  • Anthony Davis (27.7 ppg) and LeBron James (24.9 ppg) lead the Lakers in scoring.  Kyle Kuzma who they are trying to trade is the only other player averaging in the double digits in scoring.
  • Davis leads the team in points, rebounds, steals and blocks
  • LeBron leads the team and the NBA in assist with 11 per game.
  • Alex Caruso is getting plenty of All Star votes only averaging 5.6 points per game.

As fun as it is watching the Lakers every week, because they have the most televised games, they really are showing to be a team of 2 extremes.  Either they are all rolling or the game is a no contest, regardless of the score, some games were not in doubt.  Or they are at the other extreme in which it seems like the only play they have is to feed Davis and then just go back to playing defense.  Lastly, also from watching them in close games is it just me or LeBron turnover statistics in the last 5 minutes of the game are going to become a thing?

Who should win Defensive Player of the Year?

Who should win defensive player of the Year?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock I am sure you’re aware Sixers All Star center Joel Embiid, Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz, and Superstar Anthony Davis of the Pelicans are the 3 finalists of this award. Who deserves it the most? After reading this the answer will be clear.

   Isolation Defense

Rudy Gobert: 16/48 (33%)

Joel Embiid: 27/72 (37.5%)

Anthony Davis: 29/91 (31.9%)

Comments: The Brow no shocker has played the best iso d of the 3 with his athletic gift.

Contested shots

Rudy Gobert: 15.0 (12.7 2s) (2.3 3s)

Joel Embiid: 11.5 ( 9.6 2s) (1.9 3s)

Anthony Davis: 14.2 (9.8 2s) (4.4 3s)

Comments: I wasn’t shocked Rudy averaged the most contested shots per game but I didn’t think he contested more 3pt attempts per game than Embiid.

Defensive Field Goals

Rudy Gobert: 360/762 on 2s (47%) 50/141 on 3s (35.5%)

Joel Embiid: 315/725 on 2s(43.4%) 45/156 on 3s (28.8%)

Anthony Davis: 366/848 on 2s (43.2%) 120/371 on 3s (32.3%)

Comments: Not surprisingly it’s very close between Joel and the Brow considering those two can shoot the 3 ball.

Defensive Rating

Rudy Gobert: 97.7

Joel Embiid: 99.7

Anthony Davis: 103.4

On and off court defensive rating

NO WITH AD on court: 103.4

NO with AD on bench: 110.2

Utah with Rudy on court: 97.7

Utah with Rudy on bench: 99.9

PHI with Joel on court: 99.7

PHI with Joel on bench: 104.0

Comments: As you can see from the provided unbiased information, Davis and Embiid have a bigger impact defensively when they’re not playing which makes sense since Utah is that good defensively. Still I gotta give AD the edge barely over Embiid.

Defending the rim

Rudy Gobert: 197/357= 55.2%

Anthony Davis: 232/428 54.3%

Joel Embiid: 187/357= 52.4%

Comments: I was a bit shocked on Gobert but clearly Joel gets wins this category.

Defending the pick and roll

Rudy Gobert: 42/88 = 47.7%

Anthony Davis: 33/94 = 35.1%

Joel Embiid: 18/52 = 34.6%

Comments: It’s close between Joel and AD but because Davis contested more, I got to give him the edge.

Although Anthony Davis won’t win MVP, he will surely win Defensive Player of the Year.

NBA “What If’s & Nonsense

NBA “What If’s & Nonsense

By Francis S Estepan

Today is the last day of the NBA Season.  Without a doubt the only important game tonight will be Minnesota Timberwolves Vs Denver Nuggets fighting for a spot in the playoffs.  Once that game finishes the playoff matchups will be determined and nonsense predictions will be made.  Till then here are some “What if” and some extra Nonsense:

  • LeBron James did not want to face the Miami Heat in the playoffs – “You can’t script/fix NBA Games” but you can play like trash and get blown out by a Miami team led by a collection of role players and D-Wade. As great as D-Wade is, he has more value to Miami in terms of legacy than anything else.
  • Donovan Mitchell is a true rookie. If Ben Simmons wins Rookie of The Year, the NBA will more than likely think about changing out the whole “Rookie Rule”.  Thinking about it, a guy sits out a whole a year but still gets access to everything else team wise?
  • New Celtics Same Old Kyrie. I hate injuries as much as any other player, fan or just spectator but is just hard not to notice that Kyrie, as valuable and talented as he is, hasn’t played 82 games in his career.
  • I wonder how mad the Memphis Grizzlies GMs and back office became once the Phoenix Suns accomplished their mission of getting the worse record in the NBA.
  • The Warriors can’t win without Curry. KD has been great but according to the numbers without Curry this team could struggle to come out the 1st  If the Warriors don’t make out the 1st round, do they get rid of KD? Or just kickback and wait for their real leader? The REAL question is if the Warriors had to choose between Curry and KD who do they keep?
  • Who are the real Dark Horses in each conference?
    • West:
      • OKC – But not really. How did Billy Donovan performed so bad with this roster or should we blame it on Westbrook hero ball
      • Spurs – No Kawhi, no problem. Other not winning 50 games, it can be said it was successful season.  Remember the beat Houston last year
      • Jazz – Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell only have one job each. Gobert – Defense.  Mitchell – Offense.
    • East
      • Heat – If every game came down to a last second shot and D-Wade was shooting the ball, that was the game plan.
      • Philly – Let’s be honest by now, we all “Trust the Process”, but championships? Wait? Hold Up? Would that complete the process?
      • Cavaliers – Lebron James is the fiery Dark Horse in the East.
    • When did we all decided to ignore the Blazers & Pelicans as possible contenders??
    • What if somebody other than the Warriors, Rockets, Raptors or Cleveland wins the CHAMPIOSHIP? Would that be a good twist??
